The most valuable of Gürtler’s (founder of Saar Records in 1950) jewels came from the jazz world. Gürtler donated all his passion and expertise to jazz, financing every project without complaints.

The jewel in the crown of his productions was the LPJ 5007 album (Basso-Valdambrini Octet), considered by critics the best one ever published in Italy till that moment.

The records selection, to which also Gürtler took part, leaned towards the classic themes of the American repertoire, but was also oriented to unpublished recordings interpreted in the “West Coast” style.

Gürtler personally followed all the stages of the recording and was delighted at the progress made day by day. The final result was a masterpiece.

In 2003, in order to satisfy collector’s requests, SAAR Records has released two CDs under the GMG label (CD 43106 and CD 43107) included are all the tracks recorded by Basso and Valdambrini for the Jolly label.
Concurrently with the Record day 2023, SAAR Records for the first time republishes the recordings contained in the CD 43106 also on a vinyl limited version from the transfer of an analog master tape.

I veri tesori di Gürtler (fondatore della Saar Records nel 1950) appartenevano al mondo del jazz. Nel jazz, Gürtler profondeva tutta la sua passione e competenza, finanziando tutti i progetti senza recriminazioni.

Gioiello delle sue produzioni fu l’album LPJ 5007 (Basso-Valdambrini Octet), giudicato a furor di critica) il migliore che sia mai stato pubblicato in Italia fino a qual momento.

La scelta dei brani , alla quale aveva partecipato Gürtler, si orientava sui temi classici del repertorio americano, più originali inediti, interpretati nello stile “West Coast”.

Gürtler seguiva personalmente le varie fasi delle riprese, compiacendosi dei risultati ottenuti giorno per giorno. Ne uscì un capolavoro.

Nel 2003, per accontentare le richieste dei collezionisti, la Saar pubblicò due CD serie GMG (CD 43106 e CD 43107) contenenti tutte le registrazioni realizzate da Basso e Valdambrini per la Jolly. Con il Record day 2023, per la prima volta la SAAR Records ripubblicherà i brani contenuti nel CD 43106 anche su un vinile in versione limitata ricavati direttamente dal nastro analogico.

The tracks of the album were recorded in 1959 and 1960, with a striking team:
Gianni Basso (tenor sax), Oscar Valdambrini (trumpet), Attilio Donadio and Glauco Masetti (alto sax), Lars Gullin (baritone sax) Mario Pezzotta (trombone), Renato Sellani (piano), Franco Cerri (bass), Jimmy Pratt (drums).
The arrangements were entrusted to the Swedish Lars Gullin, the Italian Piero Umiliani and the Swiss George Gruntz. “Blues for Gassman” was the theme song of the famous film “I soliti ignoti” by Mario Monicelli.

I brani dell’album furono registrati nel 1959 e 1960, con una formazione di tutto riguardo: Gianni Basso (tenor sax), Oscar Valdambrini (trumpet), Attilio Donadio e Glauco Masetti (alto sax), Lars Gullin (baritone sax) Mario Pezzotta (trombone), Renato Sellani (piano), Franco Cerri (bass), Jimmy Pratt (drums).
Gli arrangiamenti furono affidati allo svedese Lars Gullin, all’italiano Piero Umiliani, e allo svizzero George Gruntz. Il brano “Blues for Gassman” era sigla del famoso film “I soliti ignoti” di Mario Monicelli.
